How do we get to Long Caye and Huracan Diving Lodge?
We have a private boat twice weekly. All transfers are included in our packages. The transfer takes 1.5 hours. You could also take a helicopter! Ask us for prices!
Where does the boat go from in Belize City?
The boat leaves from the Princess Hotel Marina in the city Center. We will always confirm the departure point and date with you after you book.
What time does the transfer leave?
We generally leave at 2pm with some flexibility for later arrivals or delays. Please try to fly into Belize with a 12.30pm or earlier arrival. We generally can’t leave after 3.30pm.
Can I get picked up or dropped off somewhere else other than Belize City?
We can arrange this as a private charter or our, or another boat, please check for a quote.
When is the best time to visit Belize?
Any month is good, October tends to be a rainy month and is in the middle of hurricane season, although storms and hurricanes are very unlikely!
Is Belize a tipping culture?
Yes, it is. Tips are never included on bills, if you’re really happy with the service you received, tipping is a generous token of your appreciation and are very much welcomed. Here, tips are generally between 10 & 20%. Tips at Huracan Diving Lodge are shared equally between all dive, wait, housekeeping and restaurant staff.
What vaccinations should I have before I come to Belize?
We advise a vaccination for DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio) and Hepatitis A. We don’t have malaria at the Caye, however if you’re planning on traveling south or east to Guatemala, malaria pills are recommended.

DIVE AND SNORKEL PACKAGE QUESTIONS

Are there fixed changeover days or can we pick our dates?
Our packages and our boat transfers are on Saturday and Wednesday only. Private charters by boat or helicopter are available for non standard days, or for a very scenic unforgettable trip to the island!
How can we pay Huracan Diving?
We accept PayPal payments and credit card payments from our website. We require a 50% deposit on booking with the balance due on departure.
Is there a fee for using a credit card?
The bank charges 3% for payment with a credit card. PayPal charges 2%.
Is there a reduction if I don’t do all the dives?
We can not give a reduction or discount if you don’t use up all your dives in your package.

WHAT TO PACK

Do we need to bring food or drinks?
Our package prices include all food, including snacks on the dive boat, tea, coffee, water and juice at Huracan Diving Lodge at all times. We also provide fruit and home baked goodies, which are always available. Huracan Diving Lodge bar is stocked with a wide selection of alcoholic drinks, and we ask that you please not consume your own alcohol whilst at our bar and lodge.
What do we need to pack?
  • Your dive certification card.
  • Your own towels/sarong/quick dry towel to use on the boat / beach. Our bath towels can not be removed from the Lodge.
  • Your own laptop/iPhone/tablet etc. if you wish to use our complimentary Wi-Fi. Our bandwidth is limited so internet can only be used to send emails
  • Insect repellent (Off! or Deep Woods or anything with Deet). Baby or any type of oil keeps sand flies away (baby, bath, massage, coconut).
  • Sunscreen and after sun lotion
  • hat to protect you from the sun
  • Sunglasses 
  • Flip flops or any type of sandals
  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • head lamp or flash light – there are no streetlamps on the island!
  • A refillable water bottle (Nalgene/ Rubbermaid/ Camelbak etc.)
  • Prescription medicines
  • A light waterproof jacket might be useful.

Please note the following:

  • illegal substances are not allowed
  • Hairdryers and heated tongs/straighteners can not be used.

ABOUT THE ISLAND & LODGE

Are there stores on the island?
No there are no stores on the island. We usually have what you need and if not, we ‘ll do our best to find it!
Where do we go when we get to the island?
We will be on the pier to meet you and show you to Huracan Diving Lodge.
Are the rooms different from each other?
No, all the rooms are pretty much the same, similar view onto the forest, fan, huge bed, bathroom, and storage. They may differ in artwork and detail only.
Are there bugs?
There may at certain times of year be mosquitoes and sandflies, the house is screened so we don’t have a problem with these inside.
Do you have Wi-Fi?
Yes, we do. However our capability limited and we ask that everyone limit their use and not up or download photos or attachments or view videos.
Are there any other activities on the island?
Long Caye is pristine littoral forest and has only Huracan Diving and a couple of other businesses. However there are many things to do on the island!
Do you have air conditioning?
No, we don’t run AC, our power is mostly all from the sun/ solar and AC draws too much power to run. We rely on ocean breezes and ceiling and floor fans though! Do you have power at night?
Do you have power at night?
Yes, we have a battery bank that’s charged up by solar during the day. However our power is limited and we ask that fans and lights be switched off when you’re out of the rooms.
Can we charge our batteries?
Yes, we have regular 120v system with American outlets. Please unplug after charging though!
Is there anything we can’t use at Huracan?
We ask that you don’t bring hairdryers, hair tongs/straighteners or devices that have a heating element; these drain our battery banks very quickly!

DIVING QUESTIONS

Do you have DIN adapters available?
We have a couple of DIN adapters, and a couple of DIN tanks too. Please check with us and reserve yours before you arrive.
When do you go out diving?
Our first dive is at 8am, second dive 11am, and third dive at 3pm and if we are doing a night dive we leave at around 6pm (all times subject to change, weather and preferences).
How deep are the dives?
Our dives are generally to a maximum of between 70 and 90 feet but you can stay shallower. The top of the wall at Long Caye is at around 40 feet.
How to you avoid other dive boats and liveaboards?
We’re so close to the dive sites that we can schedule our dives to be the only boat on the reef. We dive the Blue Hole before any of the other boats even reach our Atoll and are back at the Lodge having full breakfast before the other divers are even out of the water! The other famous dive sites at Half Moon Caye and Long Caye Aquarium at different times from the other boats.
What if you have an emergency?
We have VHF radio and satellite phone communications with Coastguard, mainland and Port Authority. We have a comprehensive evacuation plan involving boat, plane and helicopter. We have regularly serviced O2 tanks available on boats and at the Lodge.
What type of marine life will we see?
We can’t promise anything but we regularly spot two or three different kinds of shark, eagle and sting rays, several eels, tarpon and barracuda, several types of turtle. In terms of smaller fish and marine creatures you can spot butterfly and angel fish, grunt, wrasse, puffer fish, file and lizardfish, never mind the lobster, conch and tunicates…. Amongst many others!
Can you dive from shore?
All our dives are boat dives, our dive sites are between 1 and 15 minutes from our dock. Our furthest boat ride is to the Blue Hole, which is 15 minutes away! The lagoon between the reef wall and crest, and crest to shore is much too shallow to scuba dive!
Can everyone dive the Blue Hole?
We like to evaluate your comfort level on at least the first day before we visit the Blue Hole, to increase your enjoyment of all of our dive sites. We prefer guests to have deep dive experience and certification prior to diving this deeper dive however we will evaluate your comfort level and our Dive Master will decide if this is the dive for you!
Can you snorkel from shore?
Yes, you can snorkel from any of our beaches or either dock to the inner reef coral heads. We also have a superb sunken barge that is perfect for snorkeling.
Do you ask for a medical statement?
We don’t request a medical statement, but we do request that you sign a liability release when you arrive. Additionally we do recommend that you purchase travel insurance for your trip.
Can we dive with Whale Sharks?
Lighthouse Reef Atoll is not on the whale shark’s “route”. You may be lucky and spot one but we don’t offer the “whale shark package” – you need to be further South in Belize for these special packages between April and June. Ask us, we can recommend dive operations if you wish.

All bookings made by customers in respect of rooms at Huracan Diving are accepted by Huracan Diving ltd. (Hereafter called Huracan Diving) upon the following terms and conditions. 1. DEFINITIONS – “Huracan Diving”, “We” and “us” means Huracan Diving Ltd. The “Client” and “You” means the person named as the Customer on the Quotation and who is the organizing body/company and organizer responsible for commissioning of any payment for the event. The “Quotation” means the quotation prepared by Huracan Diving of the terms upon which the Client wishes to make a booking for the event. The “Event” means the event to take place as specified on the Quotation. The “Contract” means the agreement between Huracan Diving and the Client for the accommodation, catering and other services for the event constituted by Huracan Diving countersigning the Quotation signed by the Client. “Booking” means the reservation of the accommodation, catering and other facilities described in the Quotation. “Specified Date” means the date mentioned in the Quotation as the planned date for the Event or such other date as may have been agreed (subject to conditions) in writing by us. 2. TERMS OF CONTRACT – The Contract is deemed to incorporate the Quotation and these Conditions. No variation of these Conditions or of the Quotation (save as provided) in these Conditions shall be binding upon Huracan Diving unless the same is in writing and signed by a Director of Huracan Diving. 3. CHARGES AND PAYMENTS – Full payment is due on departure. Payment must be made in US$, payable to Huracan Diving Ltd. This can either be cash or with CreditCard (3% credit card charge) are In the event of payment becoming overdue, interest at Bank Base rate, as at the date of invoice, will be added to your account. 4. DEPOSIT – A 50 % deposit of the price / per person per booking is required to confirm the booking. Deposits are neither refundable nor transferable. Leaving you with a remainder of 50 % of the price / per person per booking to be paid at the time of departure. In the event that any deposit is not paid by the due date ( date of booking confirmation from both sides ) the booking will be deemed to have been cancelled. You can pay your deposit on our contact page. 5. CONFIRMATION BY THE CLIENT – Final timings, menus and any special requests must be confirmed to Huracan Diving at least 1 month prior to Specified Date. 6. AMENDMENTS BY THE CLIENT – Amendments to guest numbers and/or arrangements must be confirmed to Huracan Diving in writing. No changes will be accepted after 10 day prior to the event. Reductions in the duration or contracted value of the booking shall be subject to the Huracan Diving cancellation policy. 7. CANCELLATION BY THE CLIENT – In the unfortunate circumstances that you have to cancel or wish to postpone your confirmed booking at any time prior to the event, charges will be made as follows: Deposit: Non refundable, Over 90 days: 50%, 30 – 90 days: 75%, Less than 1 Month: Full Charge. These charges include accommodation, room hire and projected food and beverage revenue. The percentage figure will be calculated on Huracan Diving’s loss of profit. Any cancellation, postponement or partial cancellation should be advised to the management of Huracan Diving in the first instance verbally. You will be advised at that stage of a cancellation reference number. All cancellations should also be confirmed in writing by the Client, quoting the cancellation reference. 8. AMENDMENTS OR CANCELLATION BY HURACAN DIVING – We do not accept liability or pay compensation for any loss, damage or expense where the performance or prompt performance of our obligations is prevented or affected by reason of force majeure. Force Majeure means any event which we or the supplier of the service could not, even with all due care, foresee or avoid such as war or threat of war, riots, civil strife, terrorist activity, industrial action, natural or nuclear disaster, fire, adverse weather conditions, closure of airports or ports, technical problems with transport, governmental action and all other similar events. However, if a hurricane occurred we would offer you the possibility to reschedule your holiday without extra costs. 9. ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE – The bedroom accommodation is available from 15.00pm on the day of arrival, and must be vacated by 12.00pm on the day of departure, unless specific alternative arrangements have been made. If you use the Huracan transfer from Belize City to the island, you will depart at 2pm from Belize City on the day of arrival and arrive around 4pm on Long Caye and you will depart at 8am from Long Caye on the day of departure and arrive around 10am in Belize City.  These times can be subject of change due to weather conditions or any other circumstances.  These times can also change and different times can be agreed upon in writing. 10. GENERAL – Huracan diving reserves the right to approve any externally sourced entertainment, services or activities that you have arranged and cannot accept liability for any resultant cost. Should any of your delegates be unable to correct any aspect or activities unacceptable to Huracan diving, Huracan diving reserves the right to terminate your stay. Should this occur, no monies will be refunded to you. The Manager’s decision is final. The costs of repairing any damage caused to property, contents or grounds by any of your guests must be reimbursed to Huracan Diving by the Client. Huracan Diving will not be liable for any failure to provide or delay in providing facilities, services, food or beverages as a result of events or matters outside its control. Huracan diving’s name/logo may be used in publicity, once a proof of the promotional material has been agreed with Huracan Diving. The Client is responsible for ensuring that any band or musician employed by them compiles with statutory requirements and the requirements of the management. Huracan Diving must comply with certain licensing and statutory regulations and require the client to fulfill their obligations in this respect. We are concerned for your health and safety and that of Huracan Diving. You are required to obtain prior written approval if you wish to fix items to the walls, floors or ceilings. Prices quoted do not include taxes. 11. LIABILITY – Huracan Diving’s quotation is made on the basis that the client will or has the opportunity to insure against: (a)   Cancellation, abandonment or postponement of the event at a premium to cover the anticipated income to Huracan Diving from the event. (b) The non-appearance of speakers or delegates, property damage at or to the venue or its contents, third party bodily injury and third party damage. Huracan Diving does not accept liability for these risks and will look to the Client to make good any losses to Huracan Diving arising from them in accordance with these Conditions. 12. CURRENT CONDITIONS – The conditions above supersede all previous terms and conditions issued by Huracan Diving and apply to all bookings.
